Sponsor A Child

Sunbeam schools are located in deprived areas of Ghana. Many parents in these villages only have seasonal jobs as farmers or fisher folk and cannot afford regular education for their children. Therefore, many of our students are being sponsored either by the school or by people outside of Ghana. These sponsorships are based both on financial need and academic achievement.

Since some of our students live far away, we also have a boarding house where we provide accommodation and feeding.

Based on our sponsors' budget, we offer different kinds of sponsorship.

Sponsorship fees per child per year

- Schooling (incl. one meal per day): $240 (195 Euros)

- Schooling, Accommodation & Feeding: $490 (400 Euros)

- Book sponsorship: $ 50 (40 Euros)

- Uniform sponsorship: $ 35 (30 Euros)

Ideally, a sponsor will support a student throughout the duration of their schooling. However, we understand of course that this may be a substantial financial commitment, so sponsorship of any duration (minimum of 1 year) will be very helpful and greatly appreciated.

One-Time Donations

As an alternative to sponsorships, we also accept one-time donations which may be used for general improvements of the school compound, or to buy storybooks, toys and other learning materials for the children.

We are currently in the process of building new classrooms (see picture on the left) and are planning to renovate the existing buildings. Due to limited funding, we were only able to build the foundation so far.

Be A Volunteer

We accept volunteers from all over the world and for any period of time. We will match the volunteer's tasks with his or her abilities and preferences based on the school's needs. Based on the length of their stay and their backgrounds, volunteers may work as teachers, assistant teachers, first aid trainers, physical education coaches, computer teachers, etc.

At any given time, we can offer free accommodation and feeding for up to three volunteers who can stay on the school's premises. Additional volunteer spots can be offered with external accommodation (fees for accommodation and feeding apply in this case).

Fees that may apply

- Airfare to/from Ghana

- Visa fee

- Personal expenses (e.g. for travel within Ghana)

Volunteers are responsible for planning their trips (i.e. booking their tickets, applying for visa, etc.). Transfer from/to Kotoka International Airport in Accra will be provided free of charge.
